COOKING with Megan Lambert
Spice up your dishes with a little honey! Prepare sweet treats like baklava and honeycomb candy, and learn how to incorporate honey into savory dishes, and sample some local meads.
BOOK ARTS with Jennifer York
Learn to build a multi-layered pop-up book featuring the fascinating honeybee! We will draw, cut, and stack layers of paper into a 3-D scene, then enliven our pages with watercolor painting. Our paper scenes will collapse flat into collaged hard covers. Meanwhile, learn all about apis mellifera, the incredible and important Honeybee, as the instructor is also a South Carolina Journeyman Beekeeper eager to share her knowledge.
BEES with Nancy Simpson
The Art and Science of Honey Tasting
Join a certified honey judge in a honey tasting extravaganza. Learn to develop your palate like a honey sommelier. Based on the science of honey sensory analysis and taste perception the class will focus on discerning the depth of honey flavors. Participants will be guided through a series of tastings of differently sourced honey. Like wine tasting, the goal will be to educate students to appreciate the difference between ordinary store bought, heat treated, blended honey and the superior taste of local varieties.
CANDLE MAKING / BEES WAX with Deb DeWitt
Learn how to render and creatively use 100% pure beeswax in this hands-on workshop. We'll begin by melting and filtering wax cappings, then explore beeswax’s many uses through a variety of projects. Using freshly cleaned wax, you’ll craft a luminary bowl with pressed flowers, pour molded candles, make reusable beeswax food wraps, and blend scented lotion bars. This class is perfect for beekeepers, crafters, or anyone curious about working with natural materials.
