Made from 20 sheets of acid-free card stock within hard covers sealed with polyurethane.
5 illustrated panels, each in 4 nested accordion-folded layers. Original ink drawings, paper handcut with x-acto knife, spray painted with original handcut stencils.
Signed and dated.
Includes two sleek display stands for front-facing and in-the-round.
"REvolutionaries" was created during my month-long art residency in Amsterdam and Greece in spring of 2019. This book was created in and inspired by my two-week stay in the Exarchia neighborhood of Athens, home of the Archeological Museum and Anarchists' headquarters (no kidding, across the street from my apartment). I sketched statues in the parks; these were men and women memorialized for their courage to oust the Ottoman Empire out of Greece after 400 years of rule; their names and life dates are written in Greek above and below their portraits. The lilies on the window panels were drawn from Mexican pottery during my month in Chapala, Mexico in November 2018; they were a fit tribute to the Greek heroes. On the cover, I hand cut the intricate wrought iron paper filigree from observation of a balcony on Erissou Street in Athens, it is sealed and protected with polyeurethane. This masterful piece is original and one of a kind.
This form is called a carousel book because it can be positioned in the round, or display open standing upright, face up on a table. Closes fully to store away in your library. Collaged cover is sealed with polyurethane for maximum durability.
